A setting as elegant as the building itself.

With any home, the surroundings contribute greatly to the character and atmosphere. For the Tower of Creativity, it’s situated on the south end of the large brewery yard and overlooks three magnificent gardens and the Rochester township.

There’s always something interesting or new to take in when you explore the exterior of the brewery. The impressive courtyard provides wonderful and much needed open space and as the sun moves throughout the day the Tower affectionately shifts its shadow over the cobblestone. As you make your way down the footpath, you’ll begin to ease into the gardens and hear the soothing sounds of water which coyly draw you closer.

Gander at the gardens.

The Lower Garden, of which we have unfettered use, is a collection of unique botanical elements that are always evolving. Within this private courtyard is a wine-producing vine, a greenhouse with lemon trees, exotic flowers, and planters for seasonal vegetables and fruits. One of the brewery yard’s now defunct basements has been transformed into a subterranean seating area that’s perfect for sunning and has a dedicated greenhouse for tomatoes and melons.

As you meander through the courtyard, you’ll soon notice the tranquil sound of a babbling brook. This serene water feature runs alongside the brewery yard footpath and empties into a sculpted spillway with an artisan-crafted whirlpool that’s mesmerising to watch. Beyond the brook are rolling grass-covered banks, which make for a lovely private picnic spot during those spring and summer months. Check out the video below to virtually wander around this serene brewery garden.

As you follow the brook to the far end of the brewery yard, the sound of flowing water becomes even more obvious. Soon the Italian-inspired Tudor Garden is revealed. With its water cannons, cooling fountains, water railings, syncopated ponds, pottery, and statues, this open green space is a hidden magnificent oasis.

The third Restoration House Garden is accessed through the impressive Tudor Garden, and doubles as the backyard for Restoration House itself. The most mature of the three and glorious in its own right, this landscape features a manicured maze of calming and colourful flowers, shrubs, a koi pond, sunrooms, and a variety of trees. You can view some of the garden’s delights here.

Views for all seasons.

The Tower’s two balconies provide extraordinary uninterrupted views of the three sprawling gardens, Restoration House, Rochester Cathedral, Rochester Castle, the white cliffs of Frindsbury, and a constantly shifting spectacular Kent sky. Gazing from these balconies and taking in our surroundings brings daily tranquility and joy. As the seasons and sunsets change so does the mood and views. From little fluffy clouds on warm fiery evenings, to cool foggy mornings in the lazy autumn, to snow-covered brewery yard winters, to vibrant colourful spring afternoons. We are blessed and grateful daily to enjoy and experience these ever-changing moods of nature and seasons. We’ve captured some of these moods in the following photos from the Tower’s more impressive moments.
